Contour TRL™ Laser Resurfacing
Dr. Richardson, Dr. Cain, and our laser specialists are experts in aesthetic laser treatments. While we also perform laser treatments for vascular lesions (laser vein removal), laser hair removal, and laser tattoo removal, laser skin resurfacing is one of our particular favorite treatments. Laser skin resurfacing can be used for treatment of brown spots, wrinkling, fine lines, rough skin texture, traumatic scars, acne scars, and improving the overall quality of the skin.
As facial specialists at Texas Facial Aesthetics, we have many different options for improving the facial skin quality and will tailor the treatment to each patient’s specific areas of concern. While some patients may benefit from chemical peels (ranging from light to deep peels), a medical grade skin care regimen, microneedling, or other therapies, many will benefit from laser skin resurfacing. We utilize either fractional CO2 laser skin resurfacing, or Erbium:YAG laser skin resurfacing. We can treat the face, neck, and body, and can also treat the hands in just a few seconds using the fantastic Phoenix laser from Rohrer Aesthetics.
What is Contour TRL™?
Contour TRL™ (Tunable Resurfacing Laser) is a highly customizable skin resurfacing treatment designed to improve texture, tone, and visible signs of aging. Using Erbium:YAG laser technology, TRL™ removes damaged outer layers of skin while stimulating collagen regeneration at deeper levels for smoother, firmer, and more youthful skin.

TRL™ precisely removes varying depths of damaged skin tissue using advanced laser technology. Your provider customizes the depth of treatment to address everything from mild surface irregularities to deep wrinkles and scarring. How is Contour TRL™ performed?
After numbing the treatment area with a topical or local anesthetic, your provider gently moves the laser handpiece across your skin, delivering targeted pulses of energy. The procedure typically takes 45–60 minutes, depending on the size and depth of the area treated.
Some laser treatments will result in little to no downtime, while other more aggressive treatments can produce very dramatic improvements, but may require some downtime and post-procedural care. Is TRL™ treatment painful?
Discomfort is managed with anesthetic, and most patients report only mild heat or stinging sensations. Your provider will ensure your comfort throughout the entire procedure.
What can I expect after a TRL™ treatment?
Post-treatment, you may experience:
• Redness, warmth, and swelling (like a sunburn)
• Mild oozing or crusting depending on depth
• Peeling or flaking over several days as new skin forms
Healing usually occurs over 7–14 days, depending on the depth of treatment. Deeper resurfacing may require additional time.
What is the downtime with TRL™?
Downtime varies depending on the intensity of the treatment. Lighter sessions may need 5–7 days, while deeper resurfacing may require up to 2–4 weeks of recovery. You’ll be given detailed aftercare instructions to support healing and protect your results.
How many TRL™ treatments will I need?
Most patients experience significant results with just one treatment. However, lighter treatments can be performed in a series for more gradual improvements. Your plan will be tailored to your goals during consultation.
Is TRL™ safe?

• Have an active skin infection, open wound, or cold sore
• Have taken Accutane within the last 6–12 months

Can I get TRL™ if I’m pregnant?
No. Laser treatments like TRL™ are not recommended during pregnancy due to hormonal skin sensitivity and the lack of safety data. We recommend waiting until after pregnancy and breastfeeding to proceed.
